John 17:3 denies that Jesus is God?

Muslims cite John 17:3 in their attempt to deny His divinity. They say the verse points to the "only true God" and that Jesus was only one who was "sent" by God. So, they say Jesus is not God.

Wrong.

John 17:3 does not deny the Jesus is God. On the contrary, it proves that Jesus is God.

A. MUSLIM ERROR

The Muslim does not understand the verse because he has taken it out of context. He ignored the other verses before and after it, namely John 17:1-2 and John 17:4-5.

John 17:3 says, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Eternal life is not only in knowing God, but it is also in knowing Jesus Christ.

Who is Jesus?

B. JESUS, SON OF GOD

John 17:1-2 tells us that the one God is the Father of Jesus. Meaning, Jesus is the Son of the Father. Jesus is the Son of God.

As the Son of God, Jesus is also God, because the Son takes His nature from His Father.

The nature of the Father is that of God. Therefore, the nature of the Son is also the nature of the Father, who is God. So, Jesus is also God.

C.JESUS EXISTED BEFORE CREATION

John 17:5 proves the divinity of Jesus because it shows Him existing with God the Father “before the world was” created. In fact, Jesus already had glory with God the Father before the world’s creation.

Jesus said, “Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.”

D. SON OF GOD SENT ON A MISSION

John 17:4 tells us that God the Father sent God the Son on a mission. And Jesus said He was already accomplishing that mission.

So, instead of denying the divinity of Jesus, John 17:3 proves that He is God.

Muslims have a wrong understanding of the verse because they do not know how to read text.

And having a wrong understanding of the verse, Muslims mislead themsleves and those who believe them.

Son of God: Jesus not alone? (Other 'sons' also God?)

A MUSLIM, Gerald Jibreel Lardizabal, insists that the Lord Jesus is NOT THE ONLY “SON OF GOD.”

Muslims say there are other people called by God as His “son.” They ask, “Are these other ‘sons’ God also?” referring to the Christian belief that the Lord Jesus is God because He is the “Son of God.”

So, they seem to be confused by the term “SON OF GOD.” They think there is ONLY ONE MEANING for it.

They are wrong.

A. QUICK RESPONSE:

Simply put, Muslims DO NOT KNOW what “Son of God” means. They also DO NOT UNDERSTAND why God calls certain persons as “My son.”

In the Bible, being God’s son has two meanings: LITERAL and FIGURATIVE.

a. Literally, God has ONLY ONE SON, the Lord Jesus Christ, His ONLY BEGOTTEN. The Lord Jesus CAME OUT of the FATHER (John 16:28), like a child comes out of his parent.

b. Figuratively, God CALLS some people as His “son,” because He MADE THEM His children either by adoption or because HE CREATED THEM. Example, Adam (Luke 3:38), Israel (Exodus 4:22-23), and Solomon (1Chronicles 17: 13; 22:10; 28:6).

In these, God MADE THEM His sons. A TRUE SON is NOT MADE. HE is BEGOTTEN.

In contrast, God PUBLICLY introduced ONLY ONE PERSON as HIS SON—the Lord Jesus. (Matthew 3:17; 17:5)

B. ADDED INFORMATION:

Muslims IGNORE the DIFFERENCES between the LITERAL and FIGURATIVE MEANINGS of being God’s “son.” The NEED to IGNORE the TRUTH. If not, they would admit that the Lord Jesus was indeed God.

Let us examine the verses where God CALLED certain persons as His “son.”


a. Exodus 4:22-23
Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the LORD: Israel is my firstborn son.

I said to you, "Let my son go that he may worship me." But you refused to let him go; now I will kill your firstborn son.'"

Here, God collectively refers to the NATION of ISRAEL as His “firstborn son.” Obviously, this is NOT LITERAL.

God called ISRAEL His son because HE CHOSE IT to be His PEOPLE.

b. 1Chr 17:13
I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you,


1Chr 22:10
He shall build a house for my name. He shall be a son to me, and I will be a father to him, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel forever.'


1Chr 28:6
He said to me, 'It is your son Solomon who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be a son to me, and I will be a father to him.

This refers to Solomon. Again, God as the “father” of Solomon and Solomon as His “son” is NOT LITERAL.

Take note, God used the FUTURE TENSE: “I WILL BE a father …”, “He SHALL BE a son …”

God also said, “I have CHOSEN HIM TO BE a son to me.”

Clearly, GOD ONLY MADE Solomon as a son. Solomon was NOT a NATURAL SON of God.

NONE of those called by God as “son,” proclaimed that God was their FATHER. God was simply GOD.

IN CONTRAST, God PUBLICLY DECLARED that the Lord Jesus was HIS SON.


Matthew 3:17 and 17:5
“And a voice from heaven said, "THIS IS MY SON, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."

In the ORIGINAL GREEK, the word used for “beloved” is “AGAPETOS.” It is often used to refer to someone who is ONE AND ONLY.

That supports the declarations that the Lord Jesus is the ONLY SON OF GOD.


a. JOHN 1:14
“And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a FATHER’S ONLY SON, full of grace and truth.”


b. JOHN 1:18
“No one has ever seen God. It is GOD THE ONLY SON, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.”


c. JOHN 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave HIS ONLY SON, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”


d. JOHN 3:18
“Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the ONLY SON OF GOD.”


e. 1JOHN 4:9
“God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent HIS ONLY SON into the world so that we might live through him.”


How did JOHN KNOW that the Lord Jesus was GOD’S ONLY SON?

John knew because HE PERSONALLY KNEW the Lord Jesus. The Apostle HEARD the LORD JESUS TEACH and SPEAK that GOD is HIS FATHER. He was a WITNESS.


NO OTHER person in the BIBLE was DECLARED as GOD’S ONLY SON. ONLY the Lord Jesus was PROCLAIMED as the ONE SON of GOD.

C. MUSLIM ERROR

Muslims need to insist that the Lord Jesus is not God because their Quran has said it so.

But HOW DID the QURAN KNOW that the Lord Jesus is not God? Did their PROPHET MUHAMMAD, who GAVE the Quran to Muslims, PERSONALLY KNOW the LORD JESUS?

NO. The Lord Jesus lived in the 1ST CENTURY. Muhammad and Islam only appeared in the 7TH CENTURY. Islam’s prophet COULD NOT HAVE KNOWN who the Lord Jesus was. So, he or the Quran could not have any basis to say that the Lord Jesus was “not the only Son of God.”

Compare that to the declarations of JOHN the APOSTLE that the Lord Jesus was the ONLY SON OF GOD. John MET and KNEW the Lord. He was a WITNESS to the Christ.

Muhammad NEVER KNEW the Lord Jesus.

So, WHO SHOULD be BELIEVED?

I CHOOSE to BELIEVE the WITNESS JOHN.

MUSLIM:

Following are many proofs, from the Bible, and Books of the Apostles, that "the son of God" is given to show one's honor. reverence, high position and love (because of his believing in God). These proofs are evidence to the fact that blood relation, or begetting, are not meant by the above term. All praise is to God whom the disbelievers Falsely Describe.

Satan repeatedly says, "If thou be the son of God...", this means "honorary son of God." Jesus said to his Disciples: (Pray for them which despitefully use you. and persecute you. That ye may be the children of you father which is in heaven). Matt. 5:44-45. He also said: ( But thou, when thou hast shut thy door, pray to the Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in the secret shall reward thee openly). Matt 6:6.

CENON BIBE:
WHERE does it SAY in the verse (Matthew 4:3) that the term "son of God" is equivalent to "honorary son of God"?

Our MUSLIM REACTOR is ADDING THINGS to what the BIBLE is CLEARLY SAYING: That JESUS is TRULY the SON of GOD.

The MUSLIM REACTOR seems IGNORANT of the CONTEXT of the verse and of the devil's statement.

Why was the devil trying to test the TRUTH that JESUS is INDEED the SON OF GOD?

If we read back to the Third Chapter of Matthew, we will see in Mt 3:17 that GOD HIMSELF has SAID that JESUS is His "BELOVED SON."

So, in the following chapter, in Mt4:3, we see the DEVIL CONTESTING what GOD had just PROCLAIMED.

In the same way that our MUSLIM REACTOR DOES NOT BELIEVE that JESUS is TRULY the SON OF GOD, the DEVIL is also INSISTING on HIS DISBELIEF. The DEVil was even trying to DISPROVE the TRUE SONSHIP of JESUS.

Thus, in Mt4:3 we see that THOSE who DISPUTE or DISBELIEVE that JESUS is TRULY the SON OF GOD is only REPEATING the DISBELIEF of the DEVIL.

Also, those who DO NOT BELIEVE that JESUS is THE SON of GOD are trying to show that GOD is a LIAR.

GOD HIMSELF has just said that JESUS is HIS BELOVED SON and yet HERE is the DEVIL saying that GOD LIED as shown by his QUESTIONING or DOUBTING the DIVINE SONSHIP of CHRIST.

To say that JESUS is NOT the TRUE SON OF GOD is to MAKE GOD a LIAR.



MUSLIM:

The above meaning is repeated many times in the words that are attributed to Jesus. All these text mean that "the Father" is the one who teaches, guide and protects His believing slaves. They do not mean FatherHood in the manner of blood relation. Allah is praised in that this is not true of Him.

CENON BIBE:
Our MUSLIM REACTOR is PROVING here that THEIR GOD, ALLAH, IS NOT the GOD being REFERRED TO by JESUS.

He is saying that THEIR ALLAH is NOT the FATHER of JESUS, whereas the FATHER of JESUS HIMSELF IS TELLING US that JESUS is INDEED HIS OWN SON.

The CLAIMS of the MUSLIM REACTOR HAS NO BASIS IN FACT. He is only MAKING IT UP.



MUSLIM:

5. Satan said to Jesus: (If thou be the son of God, cast thy self down: for it is written He shall give his angels thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against the stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the lord thy God). Matt 4:6-7

CENON BIBE:
This verse DOES NOT DISPROVE that JESUS is GOD. In fact, IT EVEN PROVES that the CHRIST is GOD.

WHO is BEING TEMPTED by the DEVIL in Mt4:6-7? Was the devil TEMPTING GOD THE FATHER or JESUS?

The devil was TEMPTING JESUS to "cast [him]self down."

What did Jesus say in reply?

The LORD JESUS said, "Thou shalt NOT TEMPT the LORD, THY GOD."

The response of JESUS is clear: He was telling the devil that HE [JESUS] was GOD and that the devil should not TEMPT GOD [JESUS].

GOD is PRAISED by THOSE WHO BELIEVE that JESUS IS GOD.



MUSLIM:

In the above text, Jesus confirms what God said concerning him, which Satan quoted. If Jesus, himself, is meant by what God said, then how can he be God, or the son of God, as the Christians claim?

CENON BIBE:
How can the SON of GOD be GOD?

It is OBVIOUS. The SON of a MAN is ALSO a MAN.

So, WHAT is the NATURE of THE SON of GOD?

The SON of GOD is ALSO GOD.

The CHRISTIAN BELIEF is TRUE and CORRECT.



MUSLIM:

They claim that Jesus' actions and attributes are those of God. How, then can Satan say to Jesus; (And He shall give his angels charge concerning you?) Does God need to be taken care of and protected by the angels, so that his feet will not be dashed against the stone? (The One True God) Is not the one who needs protection, from falling down, of the angels, but a slave, powerless, humble and in Need?

CENON BIBE:
DID JESUS PLAY ALONG with what the devil was telling Him? Or did JESUS TELL the devil NOT TO TEMPT HIM who is GOD?

JESUS is GOD so HE DID NOT NEED the PROTECTION of ANGELS. So, instead of casting Himself down as insisted by the devil, JESUS REITERATED HIS GODSHIP by telling the devil that he should not tempt GOD.



MUSLIM:

6. Jesus said to Satan: (It is written again, thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.) This text is one of the major proof that Jesus believed that God or Allah is the Lord and God.

CENON BIBE:
Again, ALLAH is NOT MENTIONED in this VERSE (nor in ANY VERSE in the BIBLE). Our MUSLIM REACTOR SHOULD STOP ADDING WORDS or PERSONALITIES in the TEXTS.

It is appearing that our MUSLIM REACTOR is TWISTING and DISTORTING VERSES in an attempt to SHOW ILLUSIONS or NON-FACTUAL ACCOUNTS.

He should STOP doing that. It is NOT HONEST.

I'm SORRY to sound BLUNT but we should always be TRUTHFUL.



MUSLIM:

Jesus did not want to tempt his Lord, to see if God could help him. If Jesus was God, then, who is he going to tempt? Is he tempting his Father, to know if He is going to protect him from stone? Is he tempting himself, to see if he can protect himself if he fell from the top of the temple? Truly, the worst kind of Minds are those that read but do not Comprehend.

CENON BIBE:
That SHOWS and PROVES that when Jesus said "Thou shalt not put the LORD, THY GOD, to the TEST" HE was NOT REFERRING to HIS FATHER as the one to be tempted. HE WAS REFERRING TO HIMSELF.

If Jesus was referring to the GOD THE FATHER, He should have told the devil that "I will not put the LORD, MY GOD, to the test." But Jesus DID NOT SAY THAT.

Instead, WHAT DID HE SAY?

HE TOLD the DEVIL to "NOT PUT THE LORD, THY GOD, to the test."

Jesus was telling the DEVIL NOT to TEMPT HIM because HE WAS HIMSELF GOD.




MUSLIM:

The above is clear evidence that Jesus confirms that Allah or God alone, is the Lord and God, the One who has All Power and Ability, not Jesus.

Again, the MUSLIM REACTOR is MAKING CONCLUSIONS that ARE NOT IN THE TEXT.

Again, ALLAH is NOT MENTIONED in the VERSE. ALLAH is NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE in the BIBLE. Therefore, IT IS WRONG to CLAIM that Jesus is "confirming that Allah" is the Lord and God.

The ONE, TRUE GOD is the FATHER (Jn17:3). And since JESUS is HIS TRUE SON (Mt3:17, 17:5), JESUS is also TRUE GOD. A MANGO tree will NOT bear an APPLE. As a CARABAO will NOT bear a DOG.

Therefore, GOD will NOT bear a SON who is NOT HIMSELF GOD.
