Matthew 7:21-24 (Jesus to Reject Christians?)

A MUSLIM, Zafar Khan, posted several verses which he believes are the WORDS of the JESUS AGAINST CHRISTIANS.

Zafar Khan said in his Page "LETS DEBATE:"
What does this chapters and verses say?? isn't this enough evidence for the Christians to realize the truth and turn back to ISLAM??

"Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. (Matthew 7:21)

On judgment day many will say to me, 'Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.' (Matthew 7:22 )

But I will reply, 'I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God's laws.' (Matthew 7:23)

"Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock (Matthew 7:24)

HERE are the RESPONSES to ZAFAR KHAN: https://www.facebook.com/notes/cenon-bibe/matthew-721-24-jesus-to-reject-christians/10151376102190732

A. WHAT THE VERSES MEAN:

1. What does this chapters and verses say?? isn't this enough evidence for the Christians to realize the truth and turn back to ISLAM??

First, THERE is NO REASON to TURN BACK to ISLAM because WE WERE NEVER MUSLIMS in the FIRST PLACE.

Second, WAIT for the EXPLANATIONS because THEY will GIVE US MORE REASON NOT TO BECOME MUSLIMS.

+++

2. "Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. (Matthew 7:21)

THIS is fairly EASY and SIMPLE. It only means that IT IS NOT ENOUGH to BECOME a CHRISTIAN and CALL the LORD JESUS as "LORD."

Take note that Matthew 7:21 says, "NOT EVERYONE who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven."

"NOT EVERYONE" means "NOT ALL."

The LORD JESUS was NOT SAYING that ALL WHO CALL to HIM as "LORD," or BELIEVE IN HIM as GOD would not enter heaven. ONLY SOME of those who DO SO WOULD NOT BE ENTERING GOD'S KINGDOM. OTHERS would be GOING to HEAVEN.

That means, CALLING to JESUS as "LORD" and BELIEVING that HE IS GOD CAN GET SOMEONE INTO HEAVEN.

But CALLING OUT "LORD" is NOT the ONLY REQUIREMENT. THEY MUST ALSO DO the WILL of GOD.

So, clearly, the MUSLIM UNDERSTANDING of Matthew 7:21 is WRONG.
.
.
.
Those who wish to follow the LORD JESUS MUST PROVE their FAITH with GOOD WORKS or the FRUITS of their FAITH.

Read the PRECEDING VERSES as PROOF of THAT MEANING:

MATTHEW 7:16-20

You will know them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thorns, or figs from thistles?

In the same way, every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit.

A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Thus you will know them by their fruits.

THESE are PROPHECIES AGAINST THOSE who BROKE AWAY from the CHURCH that was FOUNDED by the LORD JESUS and FOUNDED their OWN CHURCHES.

THEY are the FALSE PROPHETS mentioned by the LORD JESUS in the PRECEDING VERSE at MATTHEW 7:15:

"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

These FALSE PROPHETS INCLUDE those who LURE CATHOLICS and other CHRISTIANS AWAY from the CHRISTIAN FAITH, like MUSLIM PREACHERS.
.
.
.
In MATTHEW 24:4-5, 11, 24-26 the LORD JESUS also WARNS AGAINST these FALSE PROPHETS.

MATTHEW 24:4-5, 11, 24-26

Jesus answered them, "Beware that no one leads you astray. For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am the Messiah!' and they will lead many astray.

And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.

For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and produce great signs and omens, to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

Take note, I have told you beforehand.

So, if they say to you, 'Look! He is in the wilderness,' do not go out. If they say, 'Look! He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe it.

.
.
.
NOTICE that the LORD JESUS SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED SOMEONE from the “WILDERNESS.”

This WILDERNESS is the DESERT. Meaning, WE SHOULD NOT FOLLOW any “PROPHET” who CAME FROM THE DESERT.

Why?

Because, according to the LORD JESUS, that "PROPHET" would be a "FALSE PROPHET."

So, if you encounter a “PROPHET,” ASK FIRST if HE CAME FROM THE DESERT. If HE DID, then HE IS ONE of the FALSE PROPHETS WARNED ABOUT by the LORD.

AVOID HIM.
.
.
.
Is it UNFORTUNATE that the PROPHET of ISLAM CAME FROM the DESERT?

And since HE DID, then IT WOULD ONLY BE WISE NOT TO BELIEVE YOUR PROPHET. The WARNING of the LORD JESUS in MATTHEW 24:24-26 is ONE GOOD and CLEAR REASON NOT TO BECOME MUSLIM.

B. WHAT ZAFAR KHAN MEANS

a. I KNOW how Zafar Khan means when he quotes Matthew 7:22-23

He will insist that the LORD JESUS is saying that HE WOULD "REJECT" CHRISTIANS on JUDGMENT DAY.

This MUSLIM, Zafar Khan, would say: "Who calls Jesus 'Lord! Lord!'? Aren't they Christians who say that Jesus is God?"

He might add that "Christians prophesy in the name of Jesus and cast out demons and perform miracles. So, they are the ones to be rejected by Jesus."

Sorry to say, Zafar Khan is WRONG because HE TOOK the VERSES OUT OF CONTEXT.

Taken in their PROPER CONTEXT (as we did above), we see that Matthew 7:22-23 DO NOT REFER to ALL CHRISTIANS but only to "FALSE PROPHETS" AMONG CHRISTIANS.
.
.
.
These FALSE PROPHETS within CHRISTIANITY are those who DISTORT the TRUTH to LEAD MEMBERS of the CHURCH AWAY from the BODY OF CHRIST.

ACTS 20:30

Some even from your own group will come distorting the truth in order to entice the disciples to follow them.

SEE?

These FALSE PROPHETS CAUSE DIVISIONS within the CHURCH using SMOOTH TALK and FLATTERY to DECEIVE MEMBERS of the CHURCH.

ROMANS 16:17-18

I urge you, brothers and sisters, to keep an eye on those who cause dissensions and offenses, in opposition to the teaching that you have learned; avoid them.

For such people do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded.

b. FALSE TEACHERS BECOME MUSLIMS

Now, NOTICE that MANY of those who BROKE AWAY from the CHURCH are NOW MUSLIMS. MANY of those now RABIDLY AGAINST CHRISTIANITY and the BIBLE, are FORMER PASTORS who were ONCE CATHOLICS.

The DEVIL LED them AWAY from the CHURCH using the FALSE BELIEF called "BIBLE ONLY."

SATAN FOOLED these people into BELIEVING that the BIBLE is the ONLY SOURCE of BELIEF and TEACHING. The DEVIL taught them that since the BIBLE is the ONLY SOURCE of SALVATION, and so THE BIBLE CANNOT CONTRADICT ITSELF.

But what do you know?

After PREACHING and SPREADING this DOCTRINE of "BIBLE ONLY," these FORMER PASTORS (NOW MUSLIM PREACHERS) are the ONES ATTACKING the BIBLE.

And why not? It was the DEVIL who INVENTED "BIBLE ONLY" so it was EASY for the DEVIL to DESTROY IT.
.
.
.
The FAITH of these FORMER PASTORS was EASILY SHATTERED when the DEVIL pointed out supposed "CONTRADICTIONS" it the BIBLE ... and THERE are "MANY."

When MUSLIM PREACHERS like AHMED DEEDAT came up with "COMPARATIVE RELIGION," they EASILY SWAYED former RABID ANTI-CATHOLICS into becoming RABID BIBLE HATERS.

All they had to do was COME UP with SEEMINGLY CONTRADICTORY VERSES and THAT'S IT; the BIBLE is suddenly ERRONEOUS and SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED for SALVATION. It did not MATTER that their UNDERSTANDING of the verses was based on WRONG CONTEXT and MISREPRESENTATION.

These "PASTORS" DID NOT THINK when THEY BELIEVED "BIBLE ONLY." They also DID NOT THINK when these MUSLIM PREACHERS FED THEM with WRONG INFORMATION about the BIBLE.

So, they are NOW MUSLIM PREACHERS THEMSELVES.

C. SHOULD WE BECOME MUSLIMS?

We already see that the INTERPRETATION of ZAFAR KHAN of Matthew 7:21-24 is WRONG. IT is OUT OF CONTEXT.

We also see that this WRONG INTERPRETATION has led to PEOPLE GETTING MISLED.

So, SHOULD WE BECOME MUSLIMS as ZAFAR KHAN SUGGESTS?

I say, SURELY NO.

I DECIDED to REMAIN CATHOLIC -- a CHRISTIAN -- because I FOUND the TRUTH in CHRISTIANITY. I WOULD NOT THROW the TRUTH AWAY because of a WRONG UNDERSTANDING of BIBLE TEXTS.

  1. Bismillah,

Lets break it down and analyze what is being said, because unfortunately people misunderstand those verses.

    Matthew 7

[21] Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
The word "Lord" when we look at it's most basic definition as understood over the ages, can be as follows:

one having power and authority over others: [Source]
Jesus(pbuh) can be called "Lord" under this definition as he is a Prophet and therefore has authority over his followers or people. God can also be called "Lord" because he has power and authority over his creation. However, just because they can be both be called "Lord" it does not mean they are the same or have the same authority. For example, if you were part of the English Judicial system, you would often refer to the judge as "Milord/MeLord" or "My Lord". Yet none of them would ever say that the judge is equivalent to God, who they would also call "My Lord".

If we look at what is said here, notice Jesus(pbuh) says that not everyone that calls him "Lord", a word to denote his authority over them, will enter Heaven. The fact that they call him "Lord" means they accept him, yet not all those that accept him will go to Heaven. Then he goes on to explain, who will. It is those that "doeth the will of my father" meaning God. He explicitly separates himself from God, and says only those that do what God says will enter Heaven, not even those that do what they think Jesus(pbuh) says. In other words, the only one who has true authority is God, not Jesus(pbuh). Then he goes on to further say:

[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Many will come to him on that day, and say didn't we do things in your name. Whose name? Jesus(pbuh), not God's, and they will say that they did many good things. Things even Jesus(pbuh) did, yet the difference will be that they did it in Jesus(pbuh)'s name, and not God's name like Jesus(pbuh) did. Notice the difference. What will happen to these people:

[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Jesus(pbuh) will tell them to get lost, and that he doesn't know them, or disowns them, why? Because they did something which was grossly unfair. What was unfair about their actions, when they did the same thing Jesus(pbuh) himself is said to have done? They attributed their actions to Jesus(Pbuh) or did them in Jesus(pbuh)'s name, not God's, which is what Jesus(pbuh) did.

In other words, they raised Jesus(pbuh) up to the level of God, and therefore did something grossly unfair, worked iniquity and as a result, are not true followers of Jesus(pbuh). The true followers are those that did it in God's name, and did what God wanted, the will of the Father, and not raise Jesus(pbuh) up to that level.
